Therapeutic indications

It allows you to evaluate the presence of corneal ulcers or foreign bodies, to perform the Jones test, the Seidal test and to measure the tfbut (tear film breakup time). Coloration of the ulcer evaluates stromal exposure and descemetocele; tear film break up time (tfbut): quality of the precorneal tear film. Jones TEST: integrity of the canal seidal test: full thickness corneal penetration and loss of aqueous humor.

Dosage and administration

Instill 1 to 2 drops of dye into each eye. Staining of the ulcer: instill a drop on the cornea and induce the blinking. TEARFILM Break up time (tfbut): - instill a drop of fluorescein on the cornea and induce one or two blinks to spread evenly. - Keep the eyelids open and count the seconds until the tear film begins to break (dark spots appear). Observe a specific area of ​​the eye – usually the dorsolateral quadrant.- Normal results in the dog: about 20 seconds.- Normal results in the cat: about 17 seconds.Jones TEST: - instill several drops of fluorescein into the eye.- Visible to the nostrils within 5-14 minutes of instillation.- Nb: Cats and brachycephalic breeds may have accessory openings in the oropharynx. In these breeds failure to see the nostrils is not necessarily diagnostic and the mouth and throat should be examined with blue light.Seidal TEST: - instill a generous amount of fluorescein into the affected eye. - induce blinking so that the entire corneal surface is covered (thin green film). - the fluorescein will color the corneal stroma and the loss of aqueous humor will dilute the overlying thin green film. - Visible as a gradually expanding dark trickle.
