Therapeutic indications
Prevention and as an adjuvant of cat urolithiasis caused by stones that dissolve in an acidic environment (e.g. Struvite), it is a urine acidifier based on DL-Methionine and Phosphoric acid.
Its regular administration allows the acidity of the urine to be increased to values incompatible with the formation and persistence of uroliths in the passages urinary.
Used to prevent and reduce feline uroliasis, a common disease that occurs in both sexes. Urolithiasis affects up to 10% of cats and recurs in 50-70% of cats fed industrial foods. Cats living in apartments are more affected and, generally, the first episode occurs between the first and sixth year of age. Uroliths are made up of 90% ammonium and magnesium phosphate and are therefore called Struvite, occasionally there are small quantities of calcium phosphate, calcium oxalate or ammonium urate. Struvite has a sandy appearance and consistency.
Struvite can lead to bacterial infections, reduction in physical activity due to castration, apartment living, diseases and obesity with consequent reduction of thirst, reduction of urination, diet with a high magnesium content.
A greater incidence of the pathology has been reported in cats fed dry rather than wet foods and this seems to be due to their high content of crude fiber which increases mass faecal and the quantity of water excreted with the faeces to the detriment of renal elimination.
