Description

Equantel 425 mg/g is an oral paste for horses contained in a 32.08 g syringe. This veterinary product is used to treat infections with adult intestinal stages of large strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms and large roundworms in horses. The active ingredient is pyrantel embonate. It is not subject to a medical prescription and has a shelf life of 36 months.

The product is administered orally, with a single dose of 19.5 mg of pyrantel embonate/kg bw, corresponding to 1 entire syringe of 32.08 g for a 700 kg horse. The animal's body weight must be determined as accurately as possible to ensure correct dosage.

Therapeutic Indications

Equantel 425 mg/g oral paste for horses is indicated for the treatment of infections with adult intestinal stages of various parasites in horses, including large strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms and large roundworms. The product is well tolerated up to 6 times the recommended therapeutic dose for nematodes (117 mg/kg bw).

Composition

Active ingredient: Pirantel embonate 425.45 mg/g (equivalent to 147.6 mg of pyrantel).

Excipients: soybean oil, refined; sorbitan monoleate; polysorbate 80; propylene glycol; water for injections.

Contraindications

Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to one of the excipients, nor in severely debilitated animals.

Safety of the drug for the species

The product is well tolerated up to 6 times the recommended therapeutic dose for nematodes (117 mg/kg bw).

Precautions

The body weight of the animal must be determined as accurately as possible to ensure correct dosing. Do not use in severely debilitated animals.

Method of administration

The product is administered orally, with a single dose of 19.5 mg of pyrantel embonate/kg bw, corresponding to 1 entire syringe of 32.08 g for a 700 kg horse.
