Therapeutic indications
Indications for all target animal species: isotonic dehydration. Metabolic acidosis. Hypotonic dehydration. Maintenance of normal levels of extracellular fluids. Replacement of electrolytes in case of burns.
Dosage and administration
Intravenous use. The volume and rate of infusion depend on the clinical condition, pre-existing deficiencies of the animal, maintenance needs and ongoing losses. Generally, an initial attempt is made to correct hypovolemia by 50% (ideally in 6 hours, but more rapidly if necessary) and is subsequently evaluated by clinical examination. Deficiencies are generally treated with concentrations between 50 ml/kg (mild) and 150 ml/kg (severe). In the absence of shock, an infusion rate of 15 ml/kg bw/hour is recommended (range 5-25 ml/kg/bw/hour). In case of shock, higher initial infusion rates are required, up to 90 ml/kg/bw/hour. High infusion rates should not be maintained for more than 1 hour unless urine production is restored. The maximum infusion rate must be reduced in the presence of heart, kidney and lung disease. Do not use if the packaging or closure is damaged. For single use only. Do not administer solutions containing visible solid particles.
