SUITABLE FOR

Dog, Cat, Pigs, Cattle, Sheep and Goats, Equines

THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS

The veterinary medicinal product is used in the target species in the following situations:

States of dehydration and hypovolemia.

Sodium (hyponatremia) and chloride (hypochloremia) deficiency.

Management of hypochloremic alkalosis.

Vehicle solution for compatible medicines.

External use for irrigating wounds and moistening compresses.

DOSAGE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

Intravenous administration. Topical use for irrigating wounds and moistening compresses. The dosage and duration of treatment should be adjusted according to specific fluid and electrolyte requirements under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon to prevent any possible side effects due to overdose. High infusion rates should be avoided in cases of chronic hyponatremia. In the case of hypothermia of the animal or low ambient temperature, i.v. fluids. they must be warmed before administration. All relevant aseptic precautions must be maintained during intravenous or topical administration. Use only in the case of a clear solution, free of visible particles and with the container intact. Maximum daily dosage: the dosage must be adjusted individually by the veterinary surgeon based on the clinical condition of the animal. Maximum infusion rate: Typically, it is recommended that the infusion rate is adapted to the existing fluid shortage. Higher infusion rates are necessary in case of hypovolemic shock (dog: up to 100 ml/kg bw/h; cat: up to 60 ml/kg bw/h; horse, cattle, newborn calf: 50 to 80 ml/kg bw/h). Although specific maximum infusion rates for small ruminants and pigs are not available in the scientific literature, there is evidence that those applicable to cattle can be used safely. In the case of long-term intravenous infusion therapy, 5-10 ml/kg bw/h should not normally be exceeded. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to increase infusion rates beyond these levels. During rapid intravenous administration of fluids, animals should be monitored for signs of fluid overload (especially pulmonary edema).

General guidelines for fluid intake: The dosage of infusion solutions should always be adjusted based on the animal's existing fluid requirements. The total deficit replacement volume is derived from the amount of maintenance volume plus the amount of deficit volume. The maintenance volume corresponds to the normal fluid losses due to perspiration, sweating, urine and feces, from which the amount of water generated in the intermediate metabolism is subtracted. Under normal conditions the following apply
