The term “lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD)” refers to a group of diseases that can affect the bladder and/or urethra of cats. Unfortunately, clinical signs rarely indicate a particular disease. There are several diseases that share the same clinical signs as FLUTD, but in most cases FLUTD is idiopathic (i.e. the cause is not known).
FLUDT is observed more commonly in young cats than in elderly cats with a maximum incidence around 4 – 7 years. In dogs, however, bladder pathologies tend to increase in proportion to the age of the animal, as the dilution of urine increases the risk of urinary tract infections.
In young cats, 60% of cases of cystitis are idiopathic (FIC), 20% are due to urolithiasis and 20% are due to the formation of urethral plugs.
Bacterial infections are frequent in elderly cats while it is difficult to find them in the urinary tract of a young cat. The reason is the different specific weight that the urine of the two feline populations presents: the high concentration of urine, typical of young cats, does not allow bacterial growth, whereas in older cats, urinary tract infections (UTI) become common because their urine is very often not very concentrated (1025-1020).
The most frequent symptoms of FLUDT: dysuria (difficult urination), pollakiuria (increased frequency of urination), hematuria, stranguria, periuria (elimination in inappropriate places), vocalizations and agitation when attempting to urinate and urethral obstruction.
It is a nutritional supplement specifically designed to strengthen the body's natural defenses for the protection of the lower urinary tract of dogs and cats. (FLUTD, idiopathic cystitis, urolithiasis, urinary infections - UTI). Thanks to a balanced supply of L-methionine and ammonium chloride it also promotes the acidification of urine.
Product structure
Glucosamine sulphate and shark cartilage: they provide glucosaminoglycans in a balanced and complete way, fundamental molecules for creating an elastic layer of protection of the bladder mucosa which in the most sensitive subjects is often subject to inflammatory phenomena and infections.
L-methionine and ammonium chloride are substances which, if regularly taken, promote a progressive acidification of the pH of the urine, reducing the incidence and severity of F.U.S. episodes.
Phytotherapeutic complex protecting the lower urinary tract
Vaccinum Macrocarpon extract (cranberry) disinfectant and anti-inflammatory, particularly active as an adjuvant in lower urinary tract infections (cystitis). In particular, this would happen thanks to the type A proanthocyanidins (PACs) in which the fruit is rich, which act by adhering to the tissues and forming a sort of "protective molecular layer" that counteracts and repels the adhesion of pathogenic bacteria.
Bearberry extract has a urinary antiseptic action: this plant is used as a disinfectant of the urinary tract, since hydroquinone, with a strong antibacterial action, undergoes some transformations in the liver and is then eliminated via the kidneys, thus concentrating in the urine.
Orthosifon S. extract is known for its diuretic and purifying action, and is widely used in all those cases where an activity of this type is desired, also accompanied by an action promoting the elimination of uric acid. It increases the volume of urine emitted moderately.
