DMSO Dimethylsulfoxide 1KG Cuma Earth
DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide) from Terra di Cuma is a liquid solution (often at 90% or 99%) widely used in the veterinary field, in particular for topical treatment in sport horses. It is prized for its powerful anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain-relieving) and diuretic properties.
One of its best-known characteristics is its exceptional ability to act as a "carrier": it rapidly penetrates the skin and can carry with it other substances or drugs applied topically, facilitating their absorption. It appears as a clear liquid, with a characteristic odor reminiscent of garlic or oysters, which can also appear on the animal's breath after skin application.
Therapeutic Indications (Veterinary Use)
DMSO Terra di Cuma is indicated as a topical adjuvant for the treatment of acute and chronic inflammation of the horse's musculoskeletal system. It is commonly used for:
- Traumas, contusions and hematomas
- Joint inflammation (arthritis, spondyloarthritis)
- Tendonitis and bursitis
- Muscle pain and fatigue
- Edema (swelling)
Thanks to its carrying capacity, it is sometimes mixed (always under veterinary advice) with other active ingredients to enhance its local effect.
Composition
Active ingredient: Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in solution (e.g. 90% or 99% depending on the specific product).
It typically contains no other excipients when sold as a pure solvent for livestock use. Always check the specific label of the product purchased.
Contraindications
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to Dimethylsulfoxide. Do not apply on open wounds, damaged or irritated skin, unless under strict veterinary indications. Do not use in combination with other topical products (e.g. sprays, creams) without first consulting a veterinarian, to avoid the absorption of potentially toxic substances.
Fundamental Precautions
DMSO requires specific precautions due to its high penetration and transport capacity:
- ALWAYS HANDLING WITH GLOVES: The operator must obligatorily wear protective gloves (e.g. nitrile or rubber). DMSO penetrates human skin and can carry any contaminants, dirt or residue on the skin into the operator's blood.
- APPLY ON CLEAN SKIN: The area to be treated on the horse must be thoroughly clean and dry. Application on dirty skin (mud, dust, residues of other products) can cause skin reactions or systemic absorption of unwanted substances.
- EXOTHERMIC REACTION: DMSO can generate slight heat when in contact with skin or water.
- CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR: The use of the product can cause a strong garlic odor both in the environment and on the breath of the animal and, sometimes, of the operator.
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Operate in well-ventilated areas.
Method of Administration
For topical (external) use exclusively.
The product should be applied directly to the affected area, clean and dry, 1-2 times a day or according to the veterinary surgeon's instructions. Massage lightly (always wearing gloves) to facilitate distribution. Do not bandage the area after application, unless specifically directed by your veterinarian, as this may increase skin irritation.
Target Species
Equines (Horses). The product is also used on other species (such as dogs and cattle), but always under strict supervision and veterinary indications.
