INDICATIONS
Folic acid or vitamin B9 is a water-soluble folate, synthesized by intestinal bacteria and present in some green leafy foods. It is involved in the synthesis of important molecules such as DNA and RNA, and proteins and is essential for the cells of the animal's organism, which undergo processes of differentiation and rapid proliferation. Folate fundamental:
• In reproduction, since it plays a fundamental role in the synthesis of DNA in rapidly multiplying tissues
• In pregnancy, as it helps to prevent the onset of malformations, in particular of the neural tube
• In elderly subjects, thanks to the beneficial effects on cognitive function
• To strengthen the immune system, supporting the activity of NK (Natural Killer) lymphocytes, which are fundamental in the case of viral infections and the appearance of neoplastic cells
• In case of alteration of the enteric mucosa, which leads to a reduction in the absorption of folates
• In subjects at risk of anemia, acting on rapidly multiplying cells
• In brachycephalic breeds, as it contributes to reducing the incidence of cleft palate during fetal development (reductions from 48% to 76% are reported in the literature)
• In cats with pancreatic insufficiency affected by SIBO and a concomitant pathology of the small intestine (conditions that can lead to deficiencies of folic acid)
• In cats with hyperhomocysteinemia, to reduce the risk of thromboembolism thanks to the protective action towards endothelial cells
• In subjects undergoing therapy with sulphonamide drugs, which can negatively influence serum folate levels and inhibit the DHFR enzyme.
