ACANA is perfect for dogs of all sizes and at every life stage. Just like you, your dog is unique and its nutritional needs vary based on the environment, age and activity of the animal.
The table below is a guideline to adjust as needed to maintain a healthy weight and peak health. We recommend monitoring your dog's weight and adjusting portions accordingly. The recommended frequency is two meals a day, always leaving fresh, clean water available.

Our philosophy for Biologically Appropriate foods is simple: reproduce the quantity, freshness and variety of animal ingredients that dogs evolved with, while limiting the content of carbohydrates and synthetic ingredients.

Completely free of potato and pea protein concentrates, ingredients generally found in common dog foods, ACANA's high protein content comes from high-quality animal (non-vegetable) ingredients, which promote lean muscle mass and provide dogs with the nutrients necessary for their nutritional needs.
Common dog foods, on the other hand, are generally low in meat proteins and contain protein concentrates from potatoes and peas.

We use fresh animal ingredients in their most nutritious and natural form. For this reason, 1/3 of the animal ingredients in ACANA Prairie Poultry are fresh and 2/3 are dehydrated, providing a natural source of meat protein and providing the essential nutrients and natural goodness that all dogs instinctively seek.
Common dog foods, on the other hand, rarely contain truly fresh animal ingredients.
AN ABUNDANT VARIETY OF ANIMAL INGREDIENTS (3)

ACANA ingredients are in WholePrey™ ratios of meat, organs and cartilage that deliver nutrients in a highly bioavailable form – dramatically reducing the need to add vitamins or synthetic additives to our foods.
Common dog foods, on the other hand, add more than 20 different types of amino acids, vitamins and minerals.
CARBOHYDRATES LIMITED TO (30%)
The dog's nutritional needs do not include carbohydrates and their content in his diet is low or non-existent. It has been established that carbohydrates are one of the main causes of obesity and diabetes – despite this, common dog foods contain them
