PROPERTIES
Lythrum salicaria or loosestrife, is a natural antidiarrheal. It was used during dysentery epidemics and was nicknamed the colic herb. Lythrum salicaria is suitable for any diarrhea: whether it is caused by a bacterium or a virus, as is often the case with gastroenteritis. The antiseptic and astringent effects of loosestrife act quickly, without side effects. A study, carried out by a group of researchers, confirmed its exceptional effectiveness in cases of intestinal transit disorders.

Loosestrife contains tannins, pectins and mucilages; has an astringent and anti-diarrheal action. Ellagitannins “tighten” the cells of the intestinal lining. This allows the intestinal cells to stop bleeding, solidifying the feces more easily. Mannanoligosaccharides derive from the walls of yeasts and are able to adhere to pathogenic bacteria, eliminating them in the feces. Fructooligosaccharides promote the development of bifidobacteria, which provide nourishment to beneficial bacteria, improving the intestinal microflora. Loosestrife is very effective: it can advantageously replace drugs that are usually prescribed and which can have unpleasant side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, abdominal pain, dry mouth and drowsiness.
